August 2007: Grey wagtail parent and chick
A grey wagtail parent feeds its chick on one of the heavy timber beams attached to the river bed behind Nando's in Lee High Road, Lewisham. The purpose of the beams, proposed by QWAG, is to allow marginal gravel beaches to form. These provide homes for invertabrates and waterside vegetation.
Grey wagtails are often seen along the more natural sections of the river - their less common cousins, yellow wagtails and pied wagtails, have been seen in Sutcliffe Park.
