October 2007 ~ An eyeful of Michaelmas Daises
Introduced from the New World in the early 1600s, these showy, purplish flowers add a welcome splash of colour to the autumn scene. They are so named because they are at their best around St Michaels's Day (29th September).
These examples, photographed from the Chinbrook Meadows boardwalk, are just one of the many species of flora that have colonised the river bank in the five years since the Quaggy was restored here, after almost seventy years in a concrete channel.
