January 2008 ~ Set back walls - a forward step

The highlight of 2007 was the official opening on June 5th of the River Quaggy Flood Alleviation Scheme, seventeen years after QWAG was formed to fight the original proposals.

One of the less well known innovations of the scheme was the setting back of new flood walls into the back gardens of properties in Eastdown Park. This allowed the natural river bank to be restored and also increased the flood water storage capacity of the scheme.
