April 2008 ~ Make room for wildlife
The workshop at 58 Lee High Road actually extends across the Quaggy. It marks the end of the last semi-natural stretch of the river, where it runs between the back gardens of Gilmore Road (left) and the assorted business premises along Lee High Rd.
Plans are being drawn up for the site by Tower Homes, who already have approval for a five storey block by the river's edge immediately downstream. This will already worsen the ecology of the river corridor, and if extended further degradation will occur. Therefore QWAG is urging the Environment Agency to insist that any redevelopment of 58 Lee High Road is set back from the river and appropriate wildlife habitats are created.
