Notes for teachers

Healthy rivers have a profound effect on local wildlife – beautiful dragonflies need water for their larval stage, and then metamorphose into the familiar flying insects we see in the spring. Ducks, swans, herons and kingfishers all need rivers for their food. Taking rivers out of the landscape greatly reduces the variety of plants and animals.
