The view from Hilly Fields (19th October 2006)

Local residents opposed to the Lewisham Gateway scheme have set up their own website.

The residents, based on the west side of the proposed development between the town centre, Hilly Fields and Ladywell, agree that it would be good to find some solution to the traffic problem in the Lewisham area and provide more amenities in the centre.  However, they oppose the current proposals which they believe will blight the area forever.

The website is part of their campaign to make the local community aware of the many detrimental effects this massive development will cause - lasting effects that aren't mentioned in the glossy brochures full of misleading artists' impressions sent out by Urban Renaissance in Lewisham.  One of the most important is the subject of QWAG's own campaign - the loss of open space and the mal-treatment of the rivers.

Visit the Alternative Lewisham Gateway Website for further details of their campaign and how you can get involved.  Or you can email them at info@lewishamgateway.org.

This massive development will determine the look and feel of Lewisham town centre for the foreseeable future and it is vital that it meets the needs and expectations of the local community.  Whatever your views you must make sure they are heard.  Remember, it's Your Space - Your Say!

Our news item - Lewisham Gateway: Your Space - Your Say! (12th June 2006) - explains QWAG's views on the Lewisham Gateway development in detail.
